Section II: Object
Acquisition of a a Non-gel Based 128-Channel EEG System
The acquisition concerns a non-gel based 128-channel EEG system. The EEG measures electrical activity in the brain and we will use this system with infants from 0 months to 4 years.
The acquisition concerns a non-gel based 128-channel EEG system from Eletrical Geodesics Inc. (EGI), owned now by Philips. This is a system suitable for rapid application, and without gel. It is highly appropriate for use with very young infants and young children which is our primary participant population. My team is well trained in this system, having used it for many years, and so require no training.
We will use this system with infants from 0 months to 4 years, and also in conjunction with our EyeLink eye-tracker. Philips have a collaboration with EyeLink which will make our integration of these systems straightforward. EEG measures electrical activity in the brain and we will use particular ERP components to index the existence of particular cognitive abilities.
The contracting institution is the Institute of Psychology of the University of Copenhagen, which is a research department and the Centre for Early Childhood Cognitiion is within the Institute of Psychology.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons
The technology from EGI is unique and cannot be purchased from another company. It offers a gel-free system which is particularly suitable for use with infants because it can be rapidly applied to the infant’s head (unlike a gel-based system). Furthermore and importantly, EGI is the only company which offers 128-channel sensor nets for infants with head circumference as low as we are planning to record and no other 128-channel EEG system has been used in peer reviewed publication with such young infants.
