Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) was established in 2010 at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms the basic understanding of the mechanisms involved in metabolic health and disase, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies.

The purchase of continuous glucose monitors (cgm) from Dexcom is an essential part of the data collection for the Danish Precision Health Initiative, where participants’ blood glucose levels are monitored for 10 days at home. The Danish Precision Health Initiative is going to be a resource for future research collaborations. For that reason, it is extremely important to use the same cgm to avoid inter-instrumental bias.

Explanation:

We are experienced with the Dexcom system and the data flow. We know from previous studies that the feasibility of use is high. Finally, Dexcom G6Pro provides a blinded feature (participants cannot she the glucose readings during the 10 days) essential for our study design, to monitor participants without affecting in their way of living.

Ruth Loos (PI of the Danish Precision Health Initiative) already implemented G6 Pro cgm’s in several other studies (PGS80, InterDAG, PET-pilot). By this, we also ensure internal comparability, data reproducibility etc.

The Dexcom G6 Pro has been revised and approved by the Danish Medicines Agency to use in non-patients. This was a rather long procedure and starting over with another company would be very time-consuming.
