Acquisition of a Holstein Dystocia Simulator to Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences

Our department contributes through teaching, research and dissimination within veterinary clinical sciences to pre- and post-graduate education of veterinarians in Denmark and to the research-based development of veterinary clinical practice.

The Department employs approximately 160 persons (full-time equivalent; FTE) and we are located in different buildings at Frederiksberg Campus and at Taastrup Campus.

Section of Reproduction and obstetrics - This section works with reproduction of production mammals.

We intend to buy three bovine dystocia simulators. The simulators are to replace experimental animals in teaching obstetrics to veterinary students.

The Dystocia Calf Model enhances and improves veterinary training. It is perfect for veterinary students as well as those studying animal care and management courses.

The model contains a fully articulated steel skeleton with a ribcage, vertebrae and pelvis. These accurate structures create a high level of realism and students will feel like they are working with real-life animals. The models include realistic movement; durable and flexible skin and tail, a Skull with jaw, teeth, soft palate, a Oesophagus and palpable anus, a reinforced ears and forelegs with durable hooves for chaining and Realistic 22.7kg weight.

Calving is considered a difficult procedure and difficulty can lead to a variety of serious problems, early intervention is crucial. Hence, the management of dystocia is a core element of veterinary training and this model will help students gain the necessary experience.

We find that no other product other than live animals can enhance the veterinary training and found no other merchers on the market.
